How is it useful ?
“The winner is the chef who takes the same ingredients as everyone else and produces the best results.”
-Edward de Bono
Traditional approaches to innovation in business solutions have involved
- Product innovation - creating new goods or services and introducing them to the market,
- Process innovation - achieving transformation by changing the way business is done
and thereby gain significant competitive advantage. Though these approaches have often been quite powerful and profitable, the actual implementation sometimes created a gap where they have been broadly applied to justify a myriad of IT budget expenses on technology acquisitions and seismic shifts disguised as process improvements. This defeated the fundamental theme of innovation, which was more about reaping greater rewards from simpler steps but not the very reverse. The need of the hour is developing innovative ways to innovate.
We at MerrionIT believe that successful optimization of innovation requires harnessing the creativity, combined knowledge and capabilities of the entire ecosystems involved. Hence we strive towards establishing an Innovation Network comprising of internal groups of the customer as well as core domain expert groups as part of MIT. This group is the first step towards the broader achievement of what we refer to as collaborative innovation which aims to
- Setup the ground rules - Defining the overarching strategy that explains the scope for innovation in terms of what you are trying to do and where you are trying to go.
- Clarify lines of control - 360 degree assessment including geographies, business units and product lines, alignment between business processes, applications and infrastructure, understanding risks and compliance issues.
- Plan and Implement - Designing an enterprise business architecture plan to guide the efforts with clear functional breakdown
- Stabilize & sustain - Manage change effectively by supporting transformational business processes, solutions and frameworks.
